After a degree in History from Kings College, London, Judie taught for 2 years in Dundee. She then joined GCHQ as a computer programmer before switching to the fast stream and spending most of her GCHQ career on the operational side. Judie then took a ten year career break spending 3 years living in the US and the rest of the time working in the voluntary sector (mostly Citizens Advice Bureau) in Cheltenham. Judie returned to GCHQ and reached Board level (Grade 3) as Director for People and Information. One of her many responsibilities was for GCHQ’s history and the contacts with Bletchley Park. Judie retired in July 2009, becoming a Bletchley Park Trustee later that year.
Apart from Bletchley Park activities include a heritage project in Cheltenham, Judie is a preparatory school governor and volunteers for the National Trust.
