What to expect

1. Social distancing

We have restricted our visitor capacity to help us ensure you can maintain social distancing around the site. This may mean you will need to queue in certain areas, particularly in our admissions area and at our introductory film. Please bear with us and following the guidance from our team who will manage the queues.


2. Face coverings

In line with the latest government guidance, as of Saturday 8 August 2020, the wearing of face coverings is now mandatory inside our museum buildings, unless you have a legitimate reason not to wear one. For the list of exemptions, please refer to the latest government guidance.

We would like to reassure all our visitors that we take social distancing and safety measures very seriously in order to provide a safe and enjoyable visit. We will continue to monitor government guidance closely and update our safety measures accordingly.


3. Exhibitions and buildings

We have introduced one-way systems in many buildings, and you may need to queue to enter. You will be able to experience most of our exhibitions, although some exhibits or spaces may be temporarily be closed. You are still welcome to use many of our interactives; please use the hand sanitiser provided to clean your hands after use.


4. Food and drink

You can find delicious food and drink in our Hut 4 café and Block C coffee shop.

Our catering team are following the latest government guidance and protective screens are in place.

Please clear tables after use and dispose of all rubbish in the bins provided.

You may like to bring bottled water in case of hot weather.

In line with the latest government guidance, we ask that visitors wear a face covering when ordering food for takeaway in the Hut 4 cafe or Block C coffee shop unless exempt.


5. Shopping

Our shop is open with adaptions to ensure social distancing. We hope you find a memento of your visit. We ask that you do not touch any products unless you intend to buy.

In line with government guidance, we ask that all visitors please wear a face covering in our shop. Disposable face masks will be available by the shop entrance should you require a face covering.


6. Our team

Our people are delighted to be back and look forward to welcoming you onsite. Many of them will be helping to manage capacity around site or will be available to answer any questions you might have.

Many of our team have been provided with face visors to provide enhanced hygiene measures when talking with you. Some of our team may also wear face coverings if they wish to do so.

We ask that you try and maintain social distancing with our team as much as possible when engaging with them, thank you.


7. Bring your own

Consider bringing:

  • Your own headphones or earphones
  • Water
  • Your own hand sanitiser
  • Your own disposable gloves
  • A face covering
