Join us for this free virtual talk where Dr David Abrutat, GCHQ’s Departmental Historian, will reveal how Bletchley Park’s Ultra intelligence was shared across the globe.
Dr David Abrutat, GCHQ’s Departmental Historian, will reveal the importance of the elaborate network of Special Communications Units (SCU) and Special Liaison Units (SLU) who shared Bletchley Park’s signals intelligence (SIGINT) during World War Two.
Success for the Allies on the battlefield often relied on accurate intelligence being intercepted and deciphered at Bletchley Park. But how did these valuable Ultra reports reach Allied commanders in the field in a timely fashion?
Follow Abrutat as he takes you through this fascinating story, starting in the summer of 1940, when the threat of a German invasion of Britain was at its highest and a fledgling mobile GC&CS unit was formed, to Cairo in 1941 with the first Special Signals Unit (SSU1) and then beyond into the later war years as the SCU and SLU became increasingly more important to the Allied war effort.
This riveting virtual talk will be hosted by our Research Historian, Dr David Kenyon. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the talk.
