For two nights, Bletchley Park will host a special gin experience as part of the Museums at Night Festival. Discover the fascinating history of this quintessentially British drink.
The evening starts with an after-hours guided tour of Bletchley Park, before the group is taken to our historic Mansion, where the Gin Lady – the owner of the Gin Nook – and her team will welcome you with a glass of Fizz. From there you’ll then learn how this noble spirit landed on our shores through a hilarious and exciting musical.
This musical comedy performance is set in the 1940s and performed by the one and only ‘Time Travelling Codebreaker’ extraordinaire ‘Julie Juniper’, who was commissioned by Bletchley Park to decode the truth about the origins of Gin. Julie daringly travels through time to meet many a colourful character who delights us in their own story of this historic spirit.
Expect a huge glug of sing-along audience participation, a dollop of Old Time Music Hall sauce from the 19th Century, a proper Georgian style Gin-soaking, and a bit of a telling off from Winston Churchill!
While enjoying the evening, there is a complete connoisseur gin tasting experience known as the adventurous ‘GIN-TOLOGY Experience,’ with over 40 undiscovered gins, learn their history, their craft, and perfect the art of creating a glorious G&T! From the performance, learn more of the gin’s provenance, sample 15th Century ‘Genever’ to prohibition 1930’s ‘Bathtub Gin’, even a sneaky ‘Old Tom’!
We will supply a decoded gin booklet, allowing you to note down your chosen gins, tonics and garnishes as a reminder, so it’s not lost in time!
This event is part of the Museums at Night Festival, a UK-wide festival of Lates in museums and galleries.
