Join the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) at the National Radio Centre at Bletchley Park for a fun hands-on workshop aimed at young people aged 10 to 18 years old (children aged 17 or under must be accompanied by an adult), where they’ll gain a better understanding of radio and electronics.
The workshop offers a short introduction on the fascinating history of radio communications, radio propagation and electronic construction, before moving on to the building of a medium wave radio receiver.
A medium wave receiver kit (one for each registered participant) will be provided free of charge by the Radio Communications Foundation. This will include using a printed circuit board, selecting components, soldering them in place and testing the circuit. Once constructed, attendees can take their newly built radio away with them at the end of the workshop.
At the end of the workshop attendees will have a better appreciation of:
· How wireless communication works
· How a radio receiver selects, demodulates and amplifies
And be able to:
· Recognise some electronic components; resistors, transistors, capacitors and inductors
· Make good solder joints
· Make basic voltage measurements
Young person (participant): £7
Accompanying adult (if child is under 16): £8
All tools, test equipment and supervision will be provided by the RSGB. The workshop runs 10:00 – 13:00 and is aimed at young persons aged 10 to 18 (children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult). Places are limited to ten young persons.
