Family Activities: The Illustration Game

Tue, 29 Oct 2019 — Thu, 31 Oct 2019
From 11:00 to 15:30
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

What was it like for the people who had to keep their work at Bletchley Park so secret?

To find out, join artist Emily Tracy for these fun drop-in workshops aimed at 5-14 year olds. Try 3 different drawing-in-secret activities; doodling, drawing from memory and invisible drawing, then scramble your drawings by folding them into 1940s origami clothes.

The workshops will take place in our new temporary exhibition – The Illustration Game: Sketches from the Archives, located in Hut 12. We will explore how drawing and other creative activities were used as outlets for people from all walks of life, employed in difficult, frustrating and frequently tedious work at Bletchley Park during World War Two.

Only a small number of photos exist from that time, so the sketches from the Bletchley Park archives, created during the war and afterwards by Veterans, are a powerful example of how the smallest details and most comical memories can survive in pictures.

No need to book, just pop in with the family!

These workshops are part of the Big Draw 2019 – Drawn to Life.
