Terms and conditions
1. KEEPING IN TOUCH
a. In becoming a Friend of Bletchley Park or making a purchase (e.g., Gift membership), you agree to the Bletchley Park Trust using your details to process and manage your membership (or purchase) and to provide you with membership services and benefits. This will include notifying you (by post, email, or telephone) when there are changes to the Friends’ scheme, or when your membership is due for renewal, or has recently lapsed.
b. We will also keep in touch with you to share relevant news and special offers relating to Friends, events, products, services, and fundraising. The Bletchley Park Trust may occasionally share personal information with trusted third-party service providers for the purpose of administering your membership. We will not share personal information with third-parties for marketing purposes.
c. You can manage your communication preferences at any time by following the instructions included in the communications that you have received from us (e.g., email or post), by emailing [email protected] or calling us on 01908 272 652.
d. You have the right to access or alter the information we hold about you so long as it does not unreasonably prevent, restrict, or inhibit the delivery of the benefits you have purchased from us.
e. Bletchley Park Trust will use your personal information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (2003) and, as of the 25th of May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679). f. From time to time we may contact lapsed and cancelled Friends by mail or email or such other methods as we may choose to encourage them to renew as a Friend of Bletchley Park. This contact may include specific promotions or incentives to re-join. If lapsed or cancelled Friends prefer not to be contacted by some or all of these means they should unsubscribe by following the instructions included in the communications that are received from us, or by emailing [email protected] or calling us on 01908 272 652 to amend your preferences.
2. YOUR FRIEND SUBSCRIPTION
a. The Friends’ Scheme offers a range of benefits on payment of an annual Friend subscription, or for Life Friend on payment of a one-off subscription. As an independent charity, we rely on our visitors, Friends, and supporters for the income to help us preserve our historic buildings, deliver our award-winning learning programme, and share the inspirational story of the Codebreakers as widely as possible.
b. We shall from time to time determine the fees and subscriptions for each category of Friends that an individual shall be required to pay when first applying to become a Friend and at the time of renewal of their membership.
c. Once paid, and subject always to your statutory rights to cancel set out below, a Friend subscription shall not be refunded save where we may determine it is in our interests to do so.
d. We reserve the right to offer time-limited discounts or incentives on Friend subscriptions from time to time. These will only be available to Friends joining or renewing within the time frame specified.
e. Where payment of a Friend subscription is made by Direct Debit and a Friend wishes to cancel a subscription, you must notify your bank. Please also let us know by emailing [email protected]
f. Where payment of a Friend subscription is not made by Direct Debit, we will write to you to remind you that your renewal is due and to invite you to continue as a Friend for another year.
g. Payment for membership may be made by Credit Card, Debit/Bank Card, Cheque or Direct Debit. We cannot accept payments from CAF, charitable trusts, or companies for memberships.

3. GIFT MEMBERSHIP
a. Friends’ membership is available to purchase online at bletchleypark.org.uk by debit or credit card payment only.
b. Gift membership cards will be sent straight to the gift recipient’s address, or to you as the gift giver as requested.
c. At the point of receipt of the Friend card, the gift recipient will become a Friend and will be bound by the usual Friends Terms and Conditions, as described in this document.
d. The membership will last for twelve months. We will write to the gift recipient and invite them to renew at the end of their twelve month membership.
e. Gift membership is non-transferable and can only be used by the named Friend(s).
f. If for any reason you are unhappy with your Gift membership purchase, you have the right to cancel your membership order and receive a full refund within 14 days of the date of purchase. To cancel an order, you must contact us via e-mail at [email protected] or by writing to us at: Development Office, Bletchley Park Trust, The Mansion, Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, MK3 6EB. The membership must also be returned before a refund is made. Gift membership cannot be cancelled and refunded if the benefits have been accessed.
4. PAYING BY DIRECT DEBIT
a. Direct Debit is a safe, secure, and easy way to pay.
b. You are protected by the Direct Debit guarantee.
c. You will make a single annual payment at the start of each membership year.
d. With Direct Debit, you will never have to worry about missing a payment, leaving you free to enjoy being a Friend of Bletchley Park.
The Direct Debit guarantee:
a. When you chose to pay your Friend subscription by Direct Debit, you agree to authorise Direct Debits from the account detailed in this instruction subject to the safeguards assured by the Direct Debit guarantee. You understand that this instruction may remain with Bletchley Park Trust and if so, details will be passed electronically to your bank/building society.
b. The guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.
c. If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit Bletchley Park Trust will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request Bletchley Park Trust to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.
d. If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit, by Bletchley Park Trust or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society. If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when Bletchley Park Trust asks you to.
e. You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
5. YOUR RIGHT TO CANCEL – NEW FRIEND
a. If membership is bought online, over the phone or by post, you have the right to cancel your membership order and receive a full refund within 14 days of the date you joined. To cancel an order, you must contact us via e-mail at [email protected] or by writing to us at: Development Office, Bletchley Park Trust, The Mansion, Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, MK3 6EB. Your membership must be returned before a refund will be made.
b. Cancellation can only be honoured if any entry made as a Friend is paid for.
c. To meet the cancellation deadline, you will need to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the 14 day cancellation period has expired.
d. Other than in the circumstances described above, annual Friend subscriptions are non-refundable. If a Friend chooses to cancel their membership part-way through a year, no part-refund is available.
e. If Friends is bought on-site at Bletchley Park, you do not have the right to cancel your membership.
f. If your membership is a Gift membership which has been used, you do not have the right to cancel your membership and receive a refund.
6. YOUR RIGHT TO CANCEL – RENEWING FRIEND
a. As per Clause 11, your membership will renew annually. We will write to you approximately one month before your membership is renewed.
b. If you pay by Direct Debit, we will send you a renewal reminder at least 10 days before your next collection is due, your membership will then renew automatically.
c. If you wish to cancel your membership at renewal, you must contact us via e-mail at [email protected] or by writing to us at: Development Office, Bletchley Park Trust, The Mansion, Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, MK3 6EB, with communication to be received at least 14 working days prior to your Friend renewal date. Failure to do so may result in the Direct Debit being claimed.
d. Once your membership has been renewed and payment has been collected, you will not be eligible to receive a refund on your membership, save where the payment was taken in error.
7. EFFECTS OF CANCELLATION
a. If you cancel your membership within 14 days in accordance with Clause 5 or in accordance with Clause 6, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, excluding the costs of delivery.
b. We will make the reimbursement without undue delay.
c. We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of the reimbursement. If you paid by Direct Debit, then the reimbursement will be paid into the bank account that your Direct Debit was set up with.
d. You shall send back the Friends’ pack (including your Friend Card), without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your cancellation from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you post back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired, even if they do not arrive at the Museum within the 14 day period, as long as you can demonstrate proof of postage within the 14 day window. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods.
e. If the Friend Pack (including your Friend Card) is returned partly or fully used, you will not be eligible for a refund. At our discretion, we may instead charge you for any membership benefits you have taken before you cancel, such as a visit to an exhibition or purchase of discounted tickets. The charge will be in proportion to what has been performed until you have communicated to us your cancellation from this contract, in comparison with the full contract. In the case of any membership discounts on goods or services, these will be repayable in full.
8. YOUR FRIEND BENEFITS
a. Friends of Bletchley Park are entitled to a range of benefits which are listed in your welcome pack and online at bletchleypark.org.uk/friends. Entitlements for Friends vary according to the Friend option you choose.
b. We may, from time to time, review the range of benefits on offer to you and reserve the right to change/alter entry rights. We will communicate these changes to our Friends in advance via our Friends communications – including the Friends’ e-news, publications (such as the Bletchley Park magazine) and on our website at bletchleypark.org.uk/friends
c. Your Friend of Bletchley Park options can be viewed online at bletchleypark.org.uk/friends
i. Friend – one named adult.
ii. Friend Plus – one named adult and the ability to bring one guest.
iii. Friend Family – two named adults living at the same address and up to two children aged 12 – 17 in the family group.
iv. Life Friend – one named adult.
v. Life Friend Plus – one named adult and the ability to bring one guest.
vi. Life Friend Family – two named adults living at the same address and up to two children aged 12 – 17 in the family group.
d. We regret that Life memberships cannot be transferred and may only be used by the original, named individual(s) for the duration of their lifetime.
9. WHY YOUR FRIEND CARD IS IMPORTANT
a. We shall issue each adult Friend with a Friend card for each period of their membership as evidence of their membership.
b. For Friend Family, up to two children under the age of 18 can be included on the membership policy. We will not issue cards to children. Instead, when accompanied by either adult named on the policy, the children will be eligible to their membership benefits on presentation of the adult’s membership card.
c. If a Friend card is for any reason not issued or delivered to a Friend they shall still be able to enjoy the membership benefits to which they are entitled provided they are not in arrears with the payment of their subscription. In these circumstances a Friend shall be required to provide proof of identity and proof of purchase, and will be issued with a temporary membership card, to be eligible to make use of their membership benefits.
d. If a Friends’ membership card is lost or damaged, a replacement card shall be issued free of charge save that we may refuse to issue a replacement card if more than one has already been issued in the 12 months prior to the date that a request for a replacement card is received.
e. A membership card is for use by the named Friend(s) only and is non-transferable. A Friend may not permit anyone else to use their membership card. Failure to comply with this rule may result in confiscation of the membership card, immediate withdrawal of any benefits to which a Friend may be entitled and the commencement of proceedings to terminate that Friend’s membership without refund.
f. Friends will be required to present a valid membership card to enjoy the following benefits. Failure to present a valid card may mean that your membership entitlements cannot be claimed:
i. Free admission to Bletchley Park.
ii. Access to exclusive Friend experiences.
iii. Discounts in the Bletchley Park shop and catering outlets.
iv. Discounted access to Bletchley Park visitor events.
10. EVENTS (Exclusive Friend events and experiences)
a. Friends may book onto exclusive Friend-only events. These events are normally free for Friends.
b. Places at events are allocated on a first-come first-served basis, unless specified otherwise.
c. Friends can book discounted tickets for a wide range of Visitor Events. Friends are eligible for a 10% discount on all Visitor Events. You will be asked to show your Friend card on arrival. A full range of events are available online. Some are also promoted in our Bletchley Park magazine.
d. Any additional Friend offers for Visitor Events will be promoted via the Friends’ e-news.
e. No refunds or exchanges are allowed once a ticket or tickets have been booked.
f. In the unlikely circumstances of an event needing to be cancelled, notice of cancellation will be given by email to all attendees and for paid events, tickets will be fully refunded.
11. RENEWAL NOTIFICATIONS AND EXPIRY OF MEMBERSHIP
a. If you purchase your annual membership before the 10th day of the month, your annual membership will be due for renewal on the 10th calendar day of the twelfth month of your membership.
b. If you purchase your annual membership between the 11th day of the month and the last day of the month, your annual membership will be due for renewal on the 1st calendar day of the thirteenth month of your membership.
c. If you purchase your annual membership by Direct Debit and we receive your Direct Debit instruction before the 18th day of the month, your direct debit will commence on the 1st day of the following month. If we receive your Direct Debit instruction after the 18th day of the month, your direct debit will commence on the 1st day of the subsequent month. Your annual renewal of your Friend subscription will be requested on the 1st calendar day of the twelfth month following your previous payment.
d. Friends paying by Direct Debit will be sent a joining letter, advising you of when your annual subscription will be taken from your bank account. Your annual subscription will be taken 12 months after your joining payment. Your Friend card will be despatched with the joining letter in the first year and following receipt of subsequent Direct Debits. See section 4 for more details about managing your Direct Debit instruction.
e. Friends paying by cash, cheque or credit/debit card will be sent a renewal notice approximately one month before their expiry date.
f. Friends who pay their renewal fee up to three months after their renewal due date has passed will have their policy backdated to the renewal due date, to ensure there is no break in membership cover, so that benefits can continue to be enjoyed seamlessly. If you have not paid your membership three months after your membership renewal date has passed, your membership will be lapsed.
12. OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERSHIP
a. When acting in their capacity as a Friend of Bletchley Park, a Friend shall act in the interests of Bletchley Park and in a manner that contributes to the achievement of the objectives of Bletchley Park. While on our premises, a Friend must act in an appropriate manner so as not to cause offence or annoyance to other visitors, Friends, and their guests.
b. A Friend must notify the Development team of any change of address for communication as soon as is possible. Bletchley Park Trust will not be responsible for losses of any kind, including loss of benefits that may arise as a result of the failure of a Friend to advise us of a change of address.
13. REJECTION OR TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP
a. Bletchley Park Trust may reject any application for membership where an individual or corporate body, association or organisation appears to them to be ineligible for membership or for any other reason where they consider it to be in the interest of the Museum not to do so.
b. The membership of an individual or member organisation shall be terminated:
i. On receipt by the Development Team of a notification of the death of an individual Friend.
ii. On receipt by the Development Team of a written notice of resignation from the Friend.
iii. If payment of any membership subscription has not been received by us within 90 days of the due date.
iv. If after considering a complaint concerning the conduct of an individual Friend, the Development team is of the view that membership should be terminated.
c. A Friend whose membership is terminated shall remain liable for any arrears of subscription or other sums due from them and shall not be entitled to the return of any subscriptions or other fees already paid.
d. We reserve the right to cancel your membership at any time, without refund, if we discover that:
i. You have obtained the membership fraudulently
ii. You have transferred the membership to someone other than the named person(s) on the application form without notifying us
iii. You have given your membership card to someone other than the person(s) named on that card for them to gain the benefits of membership
